The reason for the high holy day of Yom Teruah, the Day of Blowing (Trumpets) aka Rosh HaShanah (New Year), is not as obvious as all the others. As we “look under the hood,” we find that it calls us to accept godly change without hesitation.

Yom Teruah (Day of Blowing [Trumpets]) has a number of nicknames, such as Rosh haShanah (New Year). Regardless of what you call it, Yom Teruah has a special purpose in God’s calendar. It’s a day of remembrance, a day of gathering, a day of awakening and a day of offerings. But mostly, it’s the Judgment Day. It’s a day when the wicked are judged and the righteous are vindicated by the Mashiakh (Messiah).
Apostles Paul and Yokhanan wrote a lot about this day, as did the prophets.
As part of an excursus from our study of Luke 22 on Yeshua’s teachings to the 12 during and just after His last Pesakh (Passover) with them, we’re looking at John 13-17. There appears to be a number of parallels between John 14 and Num. 10:29-12:15 that seem to suggest that the “going” Yeshua is referring to would be into the grave and then to God’s throne, reserving the privilege to dwell with God for anyone in the wold who want it.
The lesson of the Feast of Trumpets is a clarion call to Messiah Yeshua. We, as believers in Yeshua, are waiting to hear and respond to a certain trumpet sound, the last trumpet sound. That is what we wait for.
The Messiah says the last trumpet will be great, powerful sound. There is hope for us that we can rejoice that He is showing us and teaching us that He is the resurrection and the life. We live in the hope that He will restore Israel to her former glory and, according to the book of Acts, He will restore the Gentiles who have joined the House of Ya’akob (Jacob) too.
Sukkot day 3 — The annual seven-day festival of Tabernacles, סֻכּוֹת Sukkot in Hebrew, is the feast all about the final, great ingathering of people into the Kingdom of God.
In the modern world we are living in, there are certain things that Messiah said that are targeted to us and our time.
The Hebrew name for “assembly of the eighth [day]” (Lev. 23:39) is שְׁמִינִי עֲצֶרֶת Shemeni Atseret. Functionally, it’s the “last” day of the seven-day festival of ingathering, or Sukkot (Tabernacles).
The annual memorial of Sukkot recalls the transition from Yisrael’s wandering in the wilderness in tents for 40 years, and Shemini Atzeret may point to the new beginning in permanent homes in the Land after crossing the Yarden (Jordan).
This new beginning is likened to entering God’s eternal rest (Psalm 95; Hebrews 3–4). Symbolized by Ha’aretz (“the Land”), this “rest” is points forward to a time when Heaven and humanity are reunited in “the Kingdom,” also known as the messianic age.
