Yom Teruah, called Rosh haShanah on the rabbinic calendar, is the first of God’s three fall appointments with His people. The imagery of trumpet blasts and calls to pay attention permeate the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. What is the message God wants the people near the apocalyptic Day of the LORD to hear?
Food for thought from the recorded discussion
What is the meaning behind the Feast of Trumpets?
The Feast of Trumpets and the symbols of it are more frequently discussed in the Bible than any other Torah holiday.
Num. 10:9 — What are the 2 purposes of the silver trumpets? What happens when the trumpet blows once? What happens when the trumpet blows twice? Who does Moses represent? Who does Aaron the high priest represent?
What does it mean when the Messiah blows His trumpet? What is the alarm? What is the journey? Do they all move at once? How are the group movements organized?
Num. 29:1-6
Lev. 23:23-24 — What is the difference between a High Day (i.e., Passover, Wave Offering, Shavuot/Pentecost, Yom Teruah/Feast of Trumpets, Yom Kippurim/Day of Atonement, Sukkot/Feast of Tabernacles) and the seventh-day Sabbath?
Psalm 98 — What are you supposed to do during the Feast of Trumpets? What are you supposed to think about during the Feast of Trumpets? What is the LORD’s victory in Psa. 98:1?
1st Cor. 15:1-11,33-35 — How does the Feast of Trumpets help us understand this chapter? Who is being gathered here? Where does judgment start: the House of God or the world? What are believers supposed to do when they hear the trumpet blast? How do we prepare (see Heb. 10:25)? Who were in season versus out of season? What sin was Paul address in 1st Cor. 15:33-34? What group of people may have been infiltrating the congregation in Corinth and stirring up questions and doubts about the Resurrection?
What did God tell Adam about eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil (Genesis 3)? What did Satan tell Eve? Who was telling the truth? Why do many Christians believe otherwise?
1st Thess. 4:16 — If and when the economy collapses, where is your security? Will those in the world be happy when the Resurrection occurs? What is “wailing and gnashing of teeth”?
Psa. 47:1-5 — Is the trumpet just a sound? What is it?
Eze. 7:1-4 — What land is Ezekiel discussing? Are we listening to the trumpet today? Are we listening to the voice of the Messiah? What is more cutting: words or swords?
Ex. 19:16-19 — How is this connected with Messiah’s comment, “When the dead hear My voice…”?
Ex. 20:18; Zech. 9:14 — How is this connected with Messiah’s comment “Like lightening moves from the east to the west”?
