Once in a while it’s good to get back to basics. The “gospel” of the Kingdom of God is more than the life, death and resurrection of the Messiah. Shimini Atzeret, or the Eighth Day (Isaiah 52), is a celebration of salvation, peace, restoration and the reign of God.
Thought Questions
Salvation
What is salvation? How does the Torah define salvation (Ex.14:10-18; Eph. 2:1-10)? Does God apply salvation at at time when you don’t need it?
What do you have to do to be saved?
What was the difference between the salvation discussed in the Tanak v. the Apostolic Scriptures?
Peace
What is peace (Lev. 26:3-13; Gal. 5:22-26; Matt. 10:34-42)? Is peace a gift? Why do we have to work for peace? Is Yeshua’s definition of peace different from the Torah definition of peace?
Restoration
What is restoration (Leviticus 4; Ezekiel 37; Matt. 17:10-12; Mark 9:11-13; Mal. 4:4-5; Acts 1:6-8)? What needs to be restored? Who does the restoring? Can you restore something that never existed?
Reign of God
What is the reign of God (Ex. 15:17-18; Rev. 21:22-22:5; Micah. 4:1-8)? When will this come? What does God reign over?
Does God take ownership over the other “gods”?
How did God “buy” us (Exodus 21)? Is there a way for us to repay this debt?
