Reflecting on Passover and Unleavened Bread

Seven shows up repeatedly in Scripture. It appears first with the seventh day of creation, threads through God’s cycles of appointments with mankind, and foreshadows the timing of Messiah Yeshua’s arrival as the Word become flesh and culminates with many of the symbols of the Day of the Lord.

A common practice for the Shabbat that comes the day after the seven of Khag Matzot (Feast of Unleavened Bread) is to continue the celebration one more day, calling it Shemeni shel Pesakh (Eighth Day of Passover).

A regular practice is to reflect on these Torah readings: Deuteronomy 14:22-16:17; Numbers 28:19-25. A common reading from the Prophets is Isa. 10:32-12:6.

Deuteronomy 14–16

Deuteronomy 14: What does God have against certain types of meat?

Deuteronomy 15: Shmitah teaches mercy and freedom

Deuteronomy 15-16: God teaches complete freedom via cycles of seven
