How Can We Help?
What is the Shabbat (Sabbath)?
Shabbat (שבת), called Sabbath in English, is a weekly appointment with God, coming each seventh day.
It is a multilayered memorial of key characteristics of the Holy One:
- God is the Creator of the heavens and the earth (Gen. 2:2–3; Ex. 20:8–11).
- God is the Sanctifier, the One Who makes people holy by setting them apart to be Heaven’s ambassadors on earth (Ex. 31:13–15; 19:6).
- God is Provider of our “daily bread” (Ex. 16:22–30; Mt. 6:11; Lk. 11:3).
- God is Liberator from slavery and obstructions between Heaven and mankind (Dt. 5:12–15).
- The Messiah is healer of body and “heart” connection to God (Mt. 12:9–14).
- The Kingdom of God, symbolized also by the Promised Land, will provide the world with “rest” from the misery of being ruled by the Kingdom of the Adversary (Psalm 95:7–11; Hebrews 3–4).
- The Messiah is ultimate high priest of Israel, “shabbating” the separation between mankind and God (Mt. 11:28–30; 2Cor. 5:14–19; Eph. 2:11–22).
- Shabbat and Rosh Khodesh (New Moon) will be weekly and monthly memorials, respectively, even after God recreates the heavens and Earth (Isa. 66:22–23; Rev. 21:1–4; 2Peter 3:10–13).
