List of God’s appointments
God has weekly, monthly and seasonal appointments — mo’edim in Hebrew or “appointed times” (Lev. 23:2) — with His people in addition to the prayer times each day.
- Periodic
- Shabbat (Sabbath): Every seventh day of the week (Saturday); a rest day
- Rosh Chodesh (New Moon): Beginning of each lunar month; not a rest day
- Jubilee (Year of Freedom): Every 50 years
- Shemitah (Sabbatical year): Every seven years
- Spring festivals: 1st lunar month (Abib; March–April) & 3rd lunar month (Sivan; May–June)
- Pesakh (Passover): end of the 14th day of 1st month; is part of the rest day that begins Matzot
- Matzot (Feast of Unleavened Bread): 15th–21st day of 1st month; rest days on the 1st and 7th days of this festival
- Bikkurim (Wave Offering or Firstfruits): 16th day of 1st month; not a rest day
- Shavuot (Festival of Weeks or Pentecost): 6th day of 3rd month; a rest day
- Fall festivals: 7th lunar month (Tishrei; September–October)
- Yom Teruah (Festival of Trumpets): 1st day of 7th month; a rest day
- Yom haKippurim (Day of Atonement): 10th day of 7th month; a rest and total fast day
- Sukkot (Festival of Tabernacles): 15th–21st days of 7th month; 1st day of the festival is a rest day
- Shemeni Atzeret (Convocation of the Eighth Day): 22nd day of 7th month; a rest day
- Not commanded, but special
