Genesis 1:4 — ‘it was good’

Why is there the repetition in Genesis 1 of “God saw ____ and it was good”? When God repeats Himself, take notice of something important. When He repeats Himself seven times in the same chapter, get ready for something amazing. Richard leads a discussion of what was so good about the light and everything else God created.

Light for life from the recorded discussion

10 times Genesis 1 refers to “God said.” When God speaks, it’s important. When He repeats himself over and over again, it’s very important. Genesis also repeats the phrase “God saw” over and over again as well.

What does the Hebrew word Israel mean? What would it mean if it were pronounced Ishrael, which would have the same Hebrew letters? Why is this name holy? What does yara (yara, Strong’s 7200) mean? What did God see? What does this mean?

When God sees something, it has a direct effect upon what it is seen. When God sees us, it affects us. What does He see when He sees us? What should He see when He sees us? What does “the light” of God do to the “darkness” inside us?

Why was the light “good”? What did the light do? How does Genesis tell us the entire plan of salvation?

What does the Hebrew phrase ki tov (ki tov, Strong’s 3588 + 2896) mean? What was “delightful, joyful, pleasing” about the light of the first day in Gen. 1:3?

Gen. 2:3 tells us that God sanctified the Sabbath “because” it was good.

God created Adam and Eve of the same substance so they would be one.

God says a lot with few words.

Yeshua said that men loved the darkness more than the light and if they were in the light, they’d love the light (and know Him).

What does “perfect” mean? Is our standard of perfection the same as God’s? Can we be perfect? If so, how and what does that mean in us?

“and God separated light from darkness”

God increases, not by multiplying but by dividing. He first divides light from dark, later He divides the sea from the dry land.
