Genesis 15–28 recap — Vision vs. trance; sons of God, daughters of men, unequal yoking

This section of Genesis introduces us to Abraham and his family. We start to see how God communicates His revelation through Abraham’s family (not just the men, but the women as well). We also rediscover how God calls, trains and corrects those He longs to call His sons and daughters.

Thought questions

What is a vision (Num. 24:3)? Did Abraham fall into a trance?

How did Abraham respond to the vision (Gen. 15:10)?

How was Abraham tested? Did he pass the test? Who else did God test? Did they pass their tests as well? Why does God test His people? Why do we need to be tested? What is the difference between the testing experienced by Job?

How was Rivkah (Rebecca) tested (Gen. 25:23)? What did she learn? What does the revelation God gave to Rivkah mean to us and those who are in the last days?

What kind of dreams did Ya’akov (Jacob) and Yosef (Joseph) experience?

How do we become the sons and daughters of God? Were those who lived before the coming of the Messiah Yeshua sons and daughters of God? Who were the “sons of God” mentioned in Job 1?

How did Yob (Job) presented himself and his family to God? Were there others who presented themselves to God in the same way?

How is the account of the “sons of God” and the “daughters of men” a cautionary tale against intermarriage between believers and unbelievers?

Who are the sons and daughters of God? How do the sons and daughters of God get their education and wisdom?
