Saul is given another test by the LORD but Saul doesn’t know it was his final test. Saul’s acquiescence to peer pressure became his downfall and Samuel tells Saul that the kingdom will be given to another.
Food for thought from the recorded discussion
What was Saul’s primary concern in 1st Samuel 15?
Why was God so angry with Amalek?
Why does it mean that God “repented” of making Saul the leader of Israel? What was Saul’s primary weakness?
Where is Amalek’s territory? What other nations shared this territory with Amalek? Where is Havilah? Where is Rephidim?
Why does God command Saul to wipe out the Amalekites including women, children and cattle? How cowardly were the Amalekites (Ex. 17:8-16, Deut. 25:17-19)?
What does it mean that the LORD is the “Lord of the legions” or “LORD of Hosts”?
Who are the Kenites? Why did Saul spare them?
How do we know that Saul was unsuccessful in wiping out all the Amalekites?
Why did Saul spare the choice animals of Amalek? How would that effect the effectiveness of the army?
How did Samuel respond to Saul’s disobedience?
Did Saul tear Samuel’s robe or the other way around? How many times does Saul confess his sin? Why did Samuel stay?
