What is Shemini Atzeret (Eighth Day)?

Shemini Atzeret (“assembly of the eighth [day]” (Lev. 23:39) is the “last” day of the seven-day festival of ingathering, or Sukkot (Tabernacles). The Eighth Day festival suggests commemoration of ancient Israel’s new beginning in permanent homes in the Land after crossing the Jordan following 40 years of wandering. And for believers in Messiah Yeshua, this day underscores the teaching of being “in Christ” and having “Christ in you” now and eventually in person in the Kingdom.
