Trumpets: How Heaven is preparing us for the rough days ahead

How the seven trumpets of Revelation are revealed in the Torah and Prophets

The annual Biblical festival of Yom Teruah (“Day of Blowing [Trumpets]” in Hebrew) is Heaven’s call for repentance leading up to Yom Kippur (“Day of Atonement”) and Sukkot (“Tabernacles”). That’s based on the timing of these festivals and the Scripture teachings on the purposes of trumpets: calls to pay attention, be warned or gather.

Drawing from the lessons of Yom Teruah, this study on the seven trumpets in the book of Revelation are a wake-up call, a plea from Heaven to pay attention to the events going around us because the warnings recorded in the Scriptures will be our only warnings of things to come, of judgment of the Earth for what’s been done and left undone. These calls will be our only opportunity to respond accordingly with humility and repentance.

Blowing a trumpet is meant to draw attention to a particular event. Whether it’s a call to arms or a call to remembrance, when one hears a trumpet or shofar blast, it’s a sound that cannot and will not be ignored.

Yom Teruah — the Feast of Trumpets — the first of God’s fall appointments is a call to repentance and to prepare to face God in judgment, which is memorialized 10 days later on Yom Kippur — the Day of Atonement.

One can’t help but connect Trumpets to the seven trumpets of Revelation. And in this study, we will see more deeply the connection between this festival and God’s preparation of the Commonwealth of Israel (Eph. 2:11–22) to face the final judgement.

Yom Teruah (Day of Blowing [Trumpets]) has a number of nicknames, such as Rosh haShanah (New Year). Regardless of what you call it, Yom Teruah has a special purpose in God’s calendar. It’s a day of remembrance, a day of gathering, a day of awakening and a day of offerings. But mostly, it’s the Judgment Day. It’s a day when the wicked are judged and the righteous are vindicated by the Mashiakh (Messiah).

Apostles Paul and Yokhanan wrote a lot about this day, as did the prophets.

Yom Teruah (Feast of Trumpets) is not just about being raised from the dead or being changed but being with the Son of God and sharing in what the Son of God is going to do. We will be a part of it. All power and authority on the Earth will be in the Messiah’s hands, because we know what kind of person the Messiah is, because we trust Him. But as the book of Ezekiel tells us, we should always be diligent and prepared for His coming.

Apostle Paul tells us that we are to be ready to preach “in season” (2nd Tim. 4:1-2), translated from kairos, the Greek word used for the appointed times of God. Because this is the “season” of Yom Teruah (Num. 29:1), this is the focus of today’s talk.

We will get to hear the sound of the trumpet if we respond to the Messiah’s call of salvation first. The blowing of the trumpets gives us an idea of what God has in mind. We might seem unimportant to those in the world but God has a job for all of us to do.
