Exodus 35-36: A rested development of God’s House

Exodus 35-36 is a repetition of the previous chapter about the design of the Tabernacle. It doesn’t emphasize the size or measurements of the Tabernacle, but the finer details. These chapters are all about the work or nonwork in the context of building God’s Tabernacle.

When the people of Israel passed the second test, by being patient while Moses was on the mountain for the second 40 day period, they were ready to start building the Tabernacle. Do we wait for God to work on our hearts before the rest of God’s work for us to be “built” as God’s temples?

Exodus 33: How do we find favor in God’s sight?

The events in Exodus 33 were a direct consequence of the golden calf in Exodus 32. After that incident, God commanded Moshe (Moses) to move his personal tent outside the camp where the people of Israel were camping. God is a gentleman. When He is not wanted, he leaves.

Moshe was a “shadow,” a teaching representation, of God; and Aharon (Aaron), of God’s Messiah, Yeshua (Jesus).

Matthew 4:1–13 — temptation of Yeshua for 40 days parallel the testing of Israel for 40 years

In this next chapter, Yeshua travels away from His anointing at His baptism and is sent “by the Spirit” to the wilderness to suffer temptation at the hands of the Adversary. These temptations, His reaction to them and how He overcame them were a crucial training ground to prepare Him for His final mission of crucifixion and resurrection.

Exodus 34 — God reveals Himself to Moshe in a special way during second 40 days on the Mountain

The Book of Exodus records that the phrase “God spoke to Moshe…” occurs 150-plus times each in the TaNak (Torah, Prophets and Writings). God spoke to Moshe (Moses) more than any other person recorded in the entire Tanak. This gives us a small glimpse of how highly God esteemed Moshe and how Yeshua’s followers should hold Moshe in more high esteem than they do. When Moshe came back down the second time, he was changed forever.

Exodus 32-33 — two tablets of the Testimony and the golden calf

This is a very heavy section of scripture. God tells Moses about the people’s rebellion and calls on Moses to check on the people. God tells Moses that he is willing to take very drastic measures to punish the people and promote Moses to an even higher level.
