Food for thought

Jn. 18:38 — Pilate asked, "What is truth?" without realizing that the Truth stood right in front of him. The word truth in Greek is alethia (Strong’s lexicon No. 225) and in Hebrew is ’amen (Strong’s 543).

Psa. 40:11 — How does God’s truth perserve us? Loving-kindness and tender mercy.

Jn. 17:17 — What does the truth do for us?

Jn. 8:32 — How does the truth give us freedom?

The Hebrew word for love is ’ahav (Strong’s 157).

Some companion Hebrew words for love are:

  • khesed (loving kindess Strong’s 2617a)
  • rachan (love deeply, compassion Strong’s 7356)

Greek words for love are:

  • eros (passionate, intense desire)
  • phila (fondness, brotherhood, friendship)
  • agape (transcendent love, originates with God, without need of reciprocity)

John 21:15-17 — What kind of love was Yeshua asking of Peter? What kind of love was Peter offering Yeshua?

Ex. 34:6-7; 1st Cor. 10:17,25 — What does the Greek word koinea (partnership, communion, Strong’s 2842) mean? What is fellowship? What kind of community is Paul describing here? How is this community supposed to function?

What is a disciple (matheteuo, Strong’s 3100)? Consider Ro. 6:11-12; Ja. 1:26; 1st Cor. 9:24-27.

John 17:21-22 — What did Yeshua mean by being one? Why was this important to Yeshua?

1st Cor. 1:13-25 — How do we die to ourselves? How are we crucified with Christ?

The Hebrew word for “to walk” is halakh (Strong’s 1980). Halakhah commonly is translated as a ruling by sages or authorities, but it literally means "a way of walking."

Consider Gen. 17:1; 1st Kings 8:23-25,36,58.

The Greek word for “walk” is peripateo? (Strong’s 4043). See how it’s used in Rom. 8:1-4; Gal. 5:16-18.
