Daniel elaborates on the chiastic structure of 2nd Samuel 15–20 by showing a couple of simpler chiastic structures in Numbers 7, which was discussed during the Torah study.
The one in 2nd Samuel is the largest chiastic structure that Daniel has presented so far. However, the focus of this chiastic structure, as in most chiastic structures, is the Messiah. God places these chiastic structures in the Bible to reveal clues about the role of the Messiah or events that will occur in the Messiah’s life on earth.

There are three parties who play similar roles to each other: Absalom, Adonijah and haSatan (The Adversary)
Here are a few of their similarities:
- Attractiveness (2nd Sam. 14:25-26; 1st Kings 1:6; Ezek. 28:12-15)
- Desire for exaltation (2nd Sam. 15:1,10; 1st Kings 1:5; Isa. 14:13-14)
- Whoring people after themselves (2nd Sam. 16:20-22; 1st Kings 2:17)
In other words, when you see a man described in a manner similar to the way God describes HaSatan, you know that particular person is playing a similar role in the particular story.
There are similarities between Yeshua’s betrayal and “flight” to Gethsemene and David’s flight from Jerusalem through the Kidron Valley.
- Both David and Yeshua were betrayed by someone very close to them.
- They are surrounded by loyal servants who are willing to die for them.
- They pray towards the place where the temple will stand or does stand.
